At an unveiling fitting a RockStar, Jacobsen introduced their new Eclipse ™ 322.  This is a 48Volt Hybrid mower utilizing their tried and proven Greens King reels.   Talking with Brian Melka, Jacobsens Director of Product Management, I learned that the Eclipse name represents not just a new riding greens mower, but a new way to cut greens. They have built on the heritage of the classic GreensKing cutting units, but have built a new machine from the ground up that is not just the next generation of GreensKing, but is something entirely new.

Eclipse will be the family name for all greens mowers going forward.  They  started with the Eclipse 100-series, which will ultimately replace the GreensKing 500-series, and are now preparing their expansion into the Eclipse 300-series riding greens mowers.

The 322 will provide lowest cost of ownership of any riding greens mower. With 35% lower operating costs and 40% fewer parts to maintain.

Power is provided by either a battery pack or gas or diesel engine module to suit any needs.    It has no hydraulics.  The reels lift via electric actuators and turn by electric motors.  These motors can be adjusted to maintain a constant rate of clip independent of ground speed.

The steering is electric drive-by- wire.  The tires are low profile 18X10.50-10 giving less compaction per square inch.  Circuits, such as reels, lift and lower, traction are color coded for easier identification and maintenance.  The center reel retains the Jac ability to swing out for maintenance.   The reels can be individually controlled which can help with perimeter cuts and clean up passes.  The body is color impregnated plastic that is fade proof.  The drive system is similar to the E-Z-Go cart, the brake system  is spring-applied, electrically released.

The reels and motors are identical to the ones currently used on the Eclipse 122 F. The reels themselves are virtually identical, and interchangeable, with the current GreensKing reels that have provided decades of the highest quality cut. They are the foundation and heart of the machine.
