From Turfnet.com...

There are some changes in the offing regarding TurfNet’s 2008 Technician of the Year presented by Foley United.

Based on superintendent feedback we have decided to extend the nomination period until Feb. 16, 2009. The decision is a result of input collected during a recent superintendent focus group of current TurfNet members, former members and non-members.

Changing the deadline, which was tied to the needs of our former magazine, allows us to accomplish two things: It makes the promotion reflective of a technician's work for an entire calendar year; and it gives superintendents in many parts of the country more time during their offseason to focus on their technician’s accomplishments.

So, if you if you have a tech who is great or just plain good, then please nominate him (or her) for TurfNet’s 2008 Technician of the Year. The winner will receive the Golden Wrench Award (a real gold-plated wrench) from TurfNet and other great stuff from Foley United.

Criteria on which nominees are judged include: crisis management; effective budgeting; environmental awareness; helping to further and promote the careers of colleagues and employees; interpersonal communications; inventory management and cost control; overall condition and dependability of rolling stock; shop safety; and work ethic.

In other words, tell us what makes your technician worthy, with specific examples of what he or she has accomplished. Remember, the more you can tell us about your tech’s accomplishments the better his chances of winning.

For those of you who already have nominated your technician, you have until the Feb. 16 deadline to submit additional information about your tech’s accomplishments.

Finalists will be profiled on TurfNet.com in March, with the winner announced in April.
